Piergiorgio Pirro:
Rethinking Jazz Through Spectral Theory
Represented by soniqApart , pianist, composer and researcher Piergiorgio Pirro’s work is highlighted in the latest Researcher Spotlight by Koninklijk Conservatorium Brussel.
His doctoral research introduces concepts from spectral composers like Gérard Grisey and Tristan Murail into the spontaneous, co-creative world of the jazz quartet—challenging traditional harmonic frameworks and shifting the focus from fixed notes to continuums of frequencies.
Grounded in practice, his new research at KCB, Encounters at the Crossing, focuses on how contemporary musicians relate to the past while creating new musical languages.
