Terpsichore
Led by pianist and composer Geoffrey Fiorese, Terpsichore is a quartet that traces the intimate relationship between sound and movement. Taking its name from the mythological muse of dance, the project approaches music as a physical and collective experience, inviting audiences to engage not only through listening, but through a form of embodied listening where rhythm, texture and resonance are felt almost physically.
Leaving wide space for collective improvisation, the musicians shape the music in real time, responding to impulses, intuition and shared gestures. Each performance unfolds like an invisible choreography, where melodic fragments, shifting rhythms and spontaneous interactions continuously reshape the musical landscape.
Moving between long meditative passages and surging improvisations that occasionally approach the edges of free jazz, the quartet creates a sound world that is both introspective and dynamic. Rather than following fixed forms, the music evolves organically on stage, allowing each concert to develop its own narrative and intensity.
Formed around the music of Fiorese, the quartet brings together Sylvain Debaisieux on tenor saxophone, Jordi Cassagne on double bass and Théo Lanau on drums. Known for its strong collective interplay and fluid sense of form, Terpsichore offers a live performance that balances lyrical depth, exploratory improvisation and a deeply physical approach to sound.
